Why one big ceiling fan beats six small ones

HVLS stands for high volume, low speed. A 7.3m fan turning at 55 rpm moves around 13,000 cubic metres of air a minute and pushes it down and out across the floor in a deep, slow column. Small high-speed fans churn the same air in a tight cone and leave the rest of the space untouched.

The result is a noticeable drop in perceived temperature across the whole floor, drawing 370W to 1,100W depending on size, with no ducting and no refrigerant to maintain. Read the full HVLS explainer

A permanent magnet motor turns the blades directly. No gearbox means no oil changes, no gear wear and nothing to drip on the stock below.

Every fan goes in through a certified electrical contractor, which is what keeps the 5-year warranty valid for its full term. How installation works

Supplied and installed, not just shipped

Every fan mounts to structural steel or concrete and is hardwired to its own variable speed controller, so it goes in through a licensed electrical contractor. In New South Wales that is our own team of licensed electricians. Certified installation is also what keeps the 5-year warranty valid for its full term, which is why we quote supply and install together rather than leaving you to find a contractor who has fitted an HVLS fan before.

A site check for roof structure, working height and access, the fan and controller, the electrical work, commissioning, and the warranty paperwork. Freight is quoted with it, because these crates run from 38kg to 111kg and are not a parcel-network delivery.

Common questions

What is an HVLS fan?

High volume, low speed. A large-diameter fan, 2.4m and up, that turns slowly to move a very large volume of air using little energy. It creates a wide column of moving air across a floor rather than a narrow blast, which is what makes it effective in big open spaces.

What size fan do I need for my shed or warehouse?

Roof height sets the minimum size and floor area sets the count. As a starting point, a 5m fan covers around 500m² and a 7.3m fan around 1,500m². Our sizing guide has the full table and every size drawn to scale, or send us your dimensions and we will size it for you.

How much do industrial ceiling fans cost?

Our HVLS ceiling fans run from $5,990 for the 3.7m to $7,070 for the 7.3m, and commercial 2.4m and 3m fans start at $3,100. Installation is quoted separately, because it depends on mount type, working height and site access.

Do you install, or do I arrange my own electrician?

Both work. Our own licensed electricians install across New South Wales, and the 5-year warranty depends on certified installation. If you already work with a licensed contractor who has fitted HVLS fans before, that is fine too.

How long do these fans last?

The motor is the part that usually decides, and a permanent magnet direct drive has no gearbox, no belts and no oil to change. Blades are aluminium-magnesium alloy rather than steel, so they do not corrode in a humid shed. Expect a service life measured in years of continuous running, not seasons.

Do big ceiling fans help in winter?

Yes. Run in reverse at low speed they push trapped warm air back down off the roof, which is called destratification. In a heated building that typically cuts heating costs, so the fan earns its keep year round rather than sitting idle for half of it.
