About commercial ceiling fans
These are the two fans to specify when the space is occupied by people rather than pallets. Both are 2.4m or 3m across, both draw 300W, and both are designed to hang from a ceiling of 2.5 to 5m, which is the range a warehouse fan cannot work in.
The practical difference from the industrial range is the IP55 rating. That is a sealed motor, rated against dust and water jets, which is what makes these usable in an alfresco area, a covered courtyard, a wash-down kitchen or a stable. An unrated fan in any of those places is a maintenance problem waiting to happen.
Six aluminium-magnesium alloy blades run at 38dB. In a cafe that means conversation at the next table is unaffected; in a school hall it means an assembly still hears the person at the microphone. Speed is variable, and the wiring supports reverse for winter. Note the relationship between diameter and speed: the 3m turns more slowly than the 2.4m, at 105 rpm against 160, yet moves more air. A bigger disc turning slower is both quieter per cubic metre moved and gentler underneath, which is why the 3m is usually the better fan if the ceiling allows it.
How to choose between 2.4m and 3m
Ceiling height decides eligibility. Both fans want 2.5 to 5m. Under 2.5m there is not enough clearance for safe blade height; over 5m you are better served by the industrial HVLS range.
Then the environment. If the space is open to weather, gets hosed out, or is dusty, the IP55 rating is the reason to buy these rather than a domestic fan of similar diameter.
Then floor area. 140m² for the 2.4m and 210m² for the 3m, on an unobstructed floor. A long narrow room usually needs two smaller fans rather than one large one.
Then the supply. 220V single phase or 380V three phase. Single phase suits most hospitality sites, so say what you have and the controller is matched to it.
Where IP55 actually matters
IP55 means the motor is protected against dust and against water jetted from any direction. In practice that covers alfresco dining under a roof, covered walkways, commercial kitchens that get hosed down, dairies, stables and undercover carwash bays. It does not mean the fan can sit in driving rain with no cover at all, so tell us how exposed the position is and we will confirm it suits.
