Racking changes everything about warehouse airflow
An empty shed is one air volume. A racked warehouse is a set of corridors, and air will not turn corners into an aisle on its own. That is why the fan count matters more than raw size: the rule that works is one fan per open zone, then one for every structural break, so racking runs, mezzanines and dividing walls each earn their own fan rather than sharing one.
Dock areas are the other pressure point. Doors that stand open all shift make refrigerated air pointless, but moving air still works, because the comfort comes from air passing over people rather than from lowering the room temperature. Staff picking near an open dock feel a well-placed fan immediately.
In winter the same fans run in reverse at low speed and push the warm air layer back down off the roof. In a heated building that is measurable money, and stock does not love the condensation that comes with a cold floor and a warm ceiling either. Destratification explained

Why ceiling fans beat air conditioning on a warehouse floor
Ducted cooling for a 2,000m² shed is a six-figure install that fights every open door, then bills you monthly for the privilege. Fans do not cool the air, they cool the people in it: moving air at working height reads 3 to 6 degrees cooler on the skin, works with the doors open, and draws 370W to 1,100W per fan. There is no refrigerant, no ducting, and nothing on the roof to service.
Run the numbers on a shift: a 1,100W fan at half speed for ten hours is roughly a dollar and a half of electricity a day per fan at typical commercial rates. That is the whole operating cost. There is no gearbox oil and no filter schedule, because a direct-drive motor has neither.
Where the fans actually go
Placement is decided by what is already on your roof: sprinkler heads and their clearance rules, lighting runs, gantry crane rails and the conveyor drops. The fan wants clear air above and below, so the mounting points usually land over the pick faces and staging zones where people spend the day, not the geometric centre of the building. That is what the site check maps before anything is ordered.

Every fan mounts to structural steel or concrete and is hardwired to its variable speed controller, so installation runs through a licensed electrical contractor: in New South Wales that is our own team of licensed electricians.
