About this fan

One fan instead of three

At 7.3m across, this is the fan you specify when a building is too big to solve in pieces. It covers up to 1,500m² of open floor from one mounting point, which is roughly three 4.3m fans worth of floor, on one circuit, with one controller and one point of maintenance. In a clear-span distribution centre or a large sports hall that arithmetic usually decides it.

Six blades turn at 15 to 55 rpm, the slowest range in the whole range, and that is deliberate. A larger disc moving slowly produces a deeper, more coherent column of air than a smaller one spinning hard, so the air arrives at floor level still moving rather than breaking up on the way down, and then spreads outward well beyond the fan’s own diameter.

It needs height to work

This is the one specification not to compromise on. The 7.3m is rated for mounting 5 to 12m off the floor, and it performs best from about 8m. Below 5m the column has nowhere to develop, the fan feels draughty directly underneath and does nothing at the walls. If your roof is lower, the 5m or 6.1m is the better fan, not a smaller budget.

Weight and structure

The fan weighs 111kg, which is the practical difference between this size and the smaller ones. That is a dynamic load on a single point, so the mounting position gets checked rather than assumed. Our installers do that as part of the quote, and the mounting kit covers concrete, I-beam and square steel.

How installation works

A 111kg fan at 8m or more is a lift job, not a ladder job, so installation is quoted with access in mind: a scissor lift or boom, a licensed electrical contractor, and a check of the mounting point before anything is bolted up. The kit includes hardware for concrete, I-beam or square steel plus a safety cable that carries the fan independently of the main bracket.

Give us the roof height, the frame type and the floor area and we will come back with the fan, the extension rod length and the installation as one figure. The fan is supplied by Festoon House as an authorised Down Under Fans reseller, and installed by our own licensed electricians across New South Wales.

The 5-year warranty requires certified installation and is void if the fan is later relocated. At this size relocating is expensive, so the position is worth getting right the first time. Sprinkler heads, lighting runs and gantry travel all need to be clear of a 7.3m sweep.

Common questions

Is 7.3m too big for my building?
If the roof is under 5m, yes. The fan needs height to develop its air column, and below 5m you get a draught underneath and nothing at the walls. Roofs of 8m and up are where this size makes the most sense.
Will my roof structure take 111kg?
Most portal-frame roofs will, but it is a single-point dynamic load, so we check the mounting position as part of the quote rather than assume it. Send a photo of the roof steel with your enquiry and we can usually tell straight away.
How far does the air actually travel?
The column drops to the floor and then spreads outward across it, which is how one fan influences up to 1,500m². Racking, mezzanines and dividing walls cut that reach, which is why coverage on a real site is lower than the headline figure. Send us a floor plan and we will tell you what it will actually do.
