The most air per watt in the range

The 4.3m and the 5m use the same 750W motor. The 4.3m moves 7,000 cubic metres a minute; the 5m moves 10,000. That is 43% more air for the same power draw and $100 more on the price, and it is the single most useful comparison in this whole range.

The reason is geometry rather than a better motor. Swept area grows with the square of the diameter, so going from 4.3m to 5m adds about 35% more disc for the blades to work with. The fan then turns more slowly, 20 to 80 rpm against 20 to 90, and still shifts considerably more air. Bigger and slower wins almost every time in this category.

Where the extra 0.7 metres costs you

Two things. The minimum mounting height rises from 3m to 3.6m, so buildings between 3 and 3.6m are ruled out and need the 4.3m or the 3.7m instead. And the sweep is 0.7m wider, which matters when you are threading a fan between sprinkler heads, lighting runs and a mezzanine edge.

If neither applies to your building, the 5m is the better buy. If either does, the 4.3m exists for exactly that reason.

Build and warranty

Five aluminium-magnesium alloy aerofoil blades, permanent magnet direct drive with no gearbox and nothing to oil, variable frequency controller included, 38dB, and 5 years of warranty on a certified installation. At 49kg it sits at the light end of the range, so mounting is straightforward on most structures.

How installation works

Hardwired to its variable frequency controller and bolted to structural steel or concrete, through a licensed electrical contractor. Mounting hardware for concrete, I-beam and square steel is included, along with a safety cable independent of the main bracket. The fan is supplied by Festoon House as an authorised Down Under Fans reseller, and installed by our own licensed electricians across New South Wales.

The two things worth checking before ordering this size are the 3.6m minimum mount height and the 5m sweep. Sprinkler heads and light fittings inside that circle are the usual reason a fan moves a bay over, and it is much cheaper to find that out at quote stage.

The 5-year warranty requires certified installation and is void if the fan is later relocated. How installation works
