Trees wrapped branch by branch, not draped
Anyone can throw a string of lights over a tree. Wrapping is the slow version: the trunk spiralled at an even pitch, then out along each main branch, so the tree still reads as a tree once the lights come on.
The method scales. One feature tree in a back garden is the same craft as commercial tree lighting across a venue forecourt, a shopping precinct or a council streetscape, where the wrap has to hold through a full season of weather and foot traffic.
Wrapped so the tree keeps growing
A wrap that is too tight, or fixed with the wrong hardware, will girdle a branch as the tree puts on growth. Ours is built to come back off.
- Nothing is nailed, screwed or stapled into the tree
- No tight ties or wire that can ring-bark a trunk or limb
- Wrapped with slack at the pitch, so the trunk and branches have room to thicken
- 24V low voltage throughout, safe to run through a living canopy
- Rubber-sheathed cable that flexes with the tree instead of chafing it
Re-wraps and maintenance
Trees grow, and a wrap that looked perfect two summers ago starts to tighten and gap. We plan for it rather than leaving you to notice.
- Re-wrap on a 12 to 24 month cycle, set by how fast your tree grows
- Faults, storm damage and dead runs repaired without redoing the whole tree
- Christmas installs taken down, boxed and stored for next season
- Kit is connectable, so a single damaged string is swapped, not the lot

What venues say about our lighting
“The 50cm spacing was the right choice for our bar. There is just enough light for our patrons to see what they’re eating and drinking without being intrusive or blinding guests. I will be ordering more for another bar shortly.”
“Our beer garden has never looked so good. We’ve got record numbers here night after night, and many guests comment on the stunning glow given off by the new fairy light installation.”
“The festoon lights have totally transformed the courtyard area of our cafe, we’ve recently started hosting guests late into the evening. The warm glow really sets the mood for the night.”
“We’ve found some real commercial grade outdoor festoon lights. Very very happy with the purchase. They seem to be very durable, we’ll be ordering more for our other venues.”
“Product is the best we’ve come across. This has already been through 2 massive storms and had no issues.”
“This is my third 20m length of festoons I’ve ordered from Festoon House. Very high quality. We use these for all our beer gardens.”
“These festoon lights have really transformed my outdoor patio into a warm space to entertain guests. I was quite surprised by the build quality.”
“Worked wonders for our beer garden and stopped us from cutting up the pieces. Very very handy accessory.”
“Worked a treat to extend our fairy light system over the patio for NYE. Thanks for the fast delivery.”
Installation questions, answered
How much does lighting installation cost?
It depends on the lighting type, the size of the space and access. That is exactly what the consultation is for. We measure up on site and give you a clear, itemised price with no obligation.
Do you install where I am?
We have install teams working across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, plus the Central Coast, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and surrounding regions. Pop your suburb or postcode into the form and we will put the closest team on it.
Will wrapping the lights damage my tree?
Not the way we do it. Nothing is nailed, screwed or stapled into the tree, and we do not use tight ties or wire that can ring-bark a trunk. The wrap is laid with slack so the tree has room to thicken, the whole system is 24V low voltage, and the cable is rubber-sheathed so it flexes rather than chafes. As the tree grows we re-wrap it, usually every 12 to 24 months depending on the species.
What is the difference between festoon and fairy light installation?
Festoon strings are larger bulbs run on a tensioned line, ideal for overhead coverage. Fairy lights are fine wire wrapped around trees and features, slower and more detailed to install well. We do both.
Can you take Christmas lights down afterwards?
Yes. Seasonal Christmas installs can include takedown and storage so you are not on a ladder in January. Book early, December fills fast.
Do I have to buy the lights from Festoon House?
Most installs use our commercial-grade, outdoor-rated lighting, backed by a 2-year warranty and built to last Australian conditions. Your installer will confirm what suits your project in the quote.
